Immersive Formats

Immersive audio is not a single format — it's a range of technologies each with specific requirements for production, playback and delivery. I advise on format selection early in production.

Dolby Atmos (7.1.4 / cinema)

The primary format for theatrical distribution. Object-based mix in 7.1.4 with ADM BWF delivery. The studio is calibrated for this format.

Binaural and headphones

Spatial audio encoded to two channels for headphone listening. Used for VR, AR, podcasts and digital experiences. Binaural renders can be generated from Atmos sessions or produced as dedicated formats.

Ambisonics

Spherical audio format enabling direction-independent playback. Used in VR (360° video), planetariums and installation art. Scales from 1st order to higher orders depending on the playback system.

Multi-channel installations

Custom speaker configurations for museums, galleries, events and architectural spaces. From 4-channel surround to distributed systems with 20+ points.

Large-format cinema sound

Large-format cinema (IMAX / premium large format) requires deliverables that match the room's dimensions and speaker configuration. I can prep stems and mixes for large-format mastering, including workflows often associated with IMAX Enhanced and DTS:X (no certification claims). Focus: headroom, dynamics and intelligibility.

Working on an immersive project?

Format selection and delivery requirements should be clarified as early as possible. Write about your project — and I will help define the technical framework.
